How To Look After Your Children On The Internet
When your children go online, you need to pay attention to what they are doing, unless they are only toddlers. Computers are everywhere, so your child can find one to use in some of the following places, schools, friend's house, even online access on a cell phone, so the home isn't the only place. While you don't want to deprive your children of all the resources of the internet, you also want to make sure they're safe.

Sometimes it is other children that are from your child's school or neighborhood rather than an anonymous predator. A new term for forms of bullying and harassment that happen online is cyber-bullying. It can happen on emails, social networks or even instant messages. These tactics have tragically driven some children into committing suicide.

Because of these matters, your child needs to have constantly open lines of communication with you. If you find your child is being bulled there are some actions you can take like contacting their parents, notifying the school or telling the site or platform that they are using.

Parents may seem overly protective when they want to know everything about your friends, but when you are a parent you will understand. Circumstances happen in life that are unhealthy for children, and parents have a responsibility to direct them. The same holds true online, and in some ways you have to be even more careful on the internet. There are many scammers online, and they are hard to tell which is which. Instruct your children to keep quiet about personal information, especially if they have never met in person, and try to keep aware of their online friends. Some of the information your children should never give out to strangers online is, your address, your phone number, or their own picture.

Facebook is most certainly one of the most popular places to meet online for teens and adults alike. You need to realize that if your kid is pre-teen then he or she should not be using Facebook at all. Even though Facebook will not let those under 13 register, a lot of children are able to get around this specific rule. Having your kid lie about their age to sign up for an account is something you really don't want, as this is already going to cause potential problems. Kids in their early teens can use Facebook, but you should keep an eye on their activities. Regardless of what your children say, you should register an account if you don't have one already and befriend your kids. This will enable you to see who their friends are, who is posting to their wall and what they are sharing with others, among other things.

If you want to protect your child better then make sure you are familiar with all their online activities. Even if they resist your involvement in this area, it's important to make it clear that you want to know what they're doing and who they're talking to when online. Although there is no reason to be scared about this, you should take these basic precautions.
